Château Castelnaud is bij uitstek een zeer geschikt kasteel voor kinderen. Een duidelijke uitleg wordt hier gegeven over het leven op een kasteel en over de strijd tussen de Engelsen en de Fransen tijdens de Honderdjarige oorlog die 3 eeuwen duurde. Vele kastelen in de Périgord kunnen worden bezichtigd, zoals het kasteel Hautefort, Castelnaud, Marqueyssac met haar prachtige tuinen en de vesting Beynac. En niet te vergeten de kastelen Lanquais, Monbazillac en Biron.

An imposing castle of major historical importance due to it's part in the English invasion during the 100 years' war. Having a great vantage point on top of a hill, the castle and it's town can be seen for miles! Recommended. Can be combined with the Gardens of Marquessac, Beynac or La Roc Gageac as all are in the same vicinity.

Château Castelnaud stands high on a cliff beside the Dordogne river. Fascinating to explore, and it even has a working trebuchet!

Castelnaud is a lovely castle, restored to its nearly original state in recent decades. Like many of the castles in this short stretch along the Dordogne river it is situated on a bluff with magnificent views both up and down river. Chateau Beynac is clearly visible, where the English were kept under watch (and vice versa)! There are great displays of catapults and a small but fascinating museum of medieval implements of warfare and torture. Well worth the visit.
