Church Ope Cove is a lovely hidden beach. The steps down and back up are not for the faint hearted but it’s certainly worth it!

Visit the fascinating Portland Museum at Wakeham. Here you can see Barnes Wallis’ Bouncing Bomb 💣 Afterwards you can swim at CCastle and the mediaeval ruins of St. Andrew’s Church and The Pirates Graveyard, before returning to Chesil Beach to watch the sun set. We may well join you there!

A beautiful blue water cove, home to a pirates graveyard - perfect for exploring!! Be warned, there are lots of steps down to the beach, so buggys beware!

Escape the crowds with a day trip to beautiful Church Ope Cove. The pebble beach is sheltered in the prevailing south westerly wind (when Chesil Beach is rough) and the water is lovely and clear for swimming if you're feeling brave! It takes about an 1-1.5 hours to walk there from our cottage - pack a picnic as there are no facilities (except a toilet). For a shorter version of the walk, park on Grove Road (behind the YOI) and take the South West Coast Path along the top of the cliffs. To make a loop you can return along the bottom of the cliffs. The eagle-eyed might be able to find fossils if you explore near the water's edge. Both routes involve steep steps, uneven ground and lovely views.
