At a dizzying 650 feet, the bridge spans the gorge on Route 64, and is the second highest highway bridge in the US. You can park on the west side of the gorge and walk across the bridge. Hike or bike the 6-mile ridge trail, enjoying spectacular views of the gorge. Keep an eye out for bighorn sheep!

At 650 feet above the river, The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge is the second highest bridge on the U.S. Highway System and the fifth highest bridge in the United States. During construction of the bridge in the 1960s, funding did not exist to continue the road on the other side, leading to its nickname, the “Bridge to Nowhere.”

The Rio Grande Gorge is one of the most scenic areas in all of Taos. A walk across the bridge at Sunrise or Sunset will instantly inform you on why they call this place "The Land of Enchantment"
