Tips van locals
If you like a fancy afternoon activity book the "afternoon tea" package at the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois. Its not cheap, prices vary between 69-89 CHF but definitely something for a special occasion.
The coffee will be as expensive as one from Starbucks (about 7 Francs here) but I've heard it is an overall nice experience. It's a famous beautiful old hotel right at the Rhine river.
Fanciest hotel in Basel with great breakfast as well for external guests (be sure to reserve in advance)
At first glance a strange bar to recommend, as it is in a hotel and on the more pricey side. They do, however, always have impressive barkeepers. Want to be inspired by a new drink? Then this is worth a try.
Restaurant, Tea and Cake, Cocktails ... Amazing place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and river view!

“There's a café right above the Confiserie (bakery), which is typically Swiss. Watch out: it can be quite crowded sometimes and it is definitely pricey. However, it is right in front of our famous red town hall and if you get a window seat you'll have an amazing view. ”

“I recommend their Sunday brunches - they have a good variety for foodies of all kinds and principles. It's also a fun place to go to for food in general, drinks or on weekends they have concerts, parties, etc. It is owned by a cooperative for many years and has kept its unique ambient and way of doing things. ”

“Also a small and cozy café, I'd also definitely recommend. They mostly speak French (but of course also English and German) there, so it is one of the places around here, where you really realize how close this district to other countries is.”
