In the main hall of the central station of Salzburg you can find a tourists information point, where you can get a map of the historic district for free.

There is more than one tourist information centre in Salzburg but this one at the train station is the closest. You can buy a "Salzburg Card" here which allows discount and free entry to many places around the city (including free public transport)
