Camaiore is located in a valley surrounded by hills and the northern Appennins mountains. The town has Roman origins as one of the largest encampments near the city of Lucca and an important station along the Via Cassia. In the Middle Ages, the town grew considerably thanks to the old Via Francigena. The city represented the Twenty–seventh stage during the journey of Sigerico Canterbury, and was called Campmaior by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Now Camaiore is filled with many artistic treasures which include the Collegiate Church, Saint Peter's which is a Benedectine Abbey and in the village of Pieve of Camaiore there is an excellent example of a Romanic church dating 817 a.C. Only 7 miles from La Pitorina.

Pietrasanta is a lovely medieval town known for its marble and bronze workshops, artists and monuments. It is named the Little Athens of Italy, thanks to the many international artists who chose Pietrasanta as their adopted country. Pietrasanta is part of Versilia on the coast of northern Tuscany, about 15 miles from La Pitorina. Being only 2 miles off the coast you can quickly reach the beach of Marina di Pietrasanta and the fashionable Forte dei Marmi. Enjoy a pleasant walk to Piazza Duomo and through the streets of the center with the little workshops, the local specialty shops, the art galleries and temporary exhibitions. And I suggest you to take your time to get a typical Italian aperitif in one of the bars that face the square. Just one comment: You'll love it, I promise!!!

The Church of San Pantaleone in Pieve a Elici is a centuries-old church that dominates the hills of Massarosa and is found right in the town that gives the church its name. The building’s origins date to San Frediano’s evangelization efforts throughout the territory and was mentioned for the first time in a document from 892. The church of San Pantaleone owes its toponym “elici” to the Latin ilex, or holly oak, a plant that grows extensively around the church, and was built on a ridge that offers a splendid panoramic view of the whole plain of Massarosa, all the way to Lake Massaciuccoli and the coast of the Versilia.
