Calistoga at the North end of the Napa Valley is unique because long before the Europeans discovered it, Native Americans soaked in the natural mineral hot springs and use the volcanic ash to take therapeutic mud baths.
Just after the Gold Rush, Calistoga became the "Saratoga of the West" and has been a health destination ever since.
A beautiful 1 hour from Nine Trees, taking a mud bath is a great way to start or end your day of wine tasting.
I've visited Dr. Wilkenson's, the newly renovated "grand-daddy" of resorts. The staff and facilities are courteous and fresh! You can also use any of the three pools: a heated mineral spring pool, a heated saltwater pool and a cool saltwater pool!

If you are travelling through Sebastopol, I highly recommend putting "Florence Ave, Sebastopol, CA" in your GPS.
Besides being a shortcut to bypass most traffic in downtown Sebastopol, the real draw is the huge amount of artwork from local "Junk Sculptor" Patrick Amiot and his wife, Brigitte Laurent.
