This is the place we love the most on the Northumberland coast. If you're lucky the van will be at the Craser car park so that you can get a haggis and bacon sandwich before you walk to the dramatic ruins along the beautiful beach. The beach is brilliant for beachcombing.

Cragside is the former house of Lord & Lady Armstrong and was the first house lit by hydroelectric power. Beautiful gardens and grounds. A fantastic day out for the entire family.

The Breamish Valley is just stunning. A favourite walk of ours from Prendwick to Ingram on a old drovers track. Stop at the Ingram Cafe for some beautiful food and coffee before returning or carrying on.

If there's a more peaceful, mystical spot in England, we've yet to find it. A spring-fed stone well, this is said to be the site of mass baptism in the 7th century by St Paulinus.

Walk up to Lordenshaw to see the prehistoric rock carvings before crossing back over the road to walk the Simonside Ridge. With the hills covered in heather, the scenery is particularly stunning in the summer.

This is a fairly easy walk to a lovely isolated waterfall. There should be a laminated map in the cottage. If not you should be able to get an OS map or free brochure from the Tourist Information Centre in Rothbury.
