Tips van locals
Learn the history of the island through the museum and one of the free tours, enjoy walking the grounds with the centuries old moss covered oaks, and enjoy the view of the Frederica River. There are often family friendly special events at the fort too!
The best time to visit the Fort is in the Spring or Fall. Take a walk back into history and explore the north end of SSI. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and good walking shoes.
We love the walking tours, 20 minute film, and dressing up like colonial soldiers -- and it's all free! Pack a picnic and make an afternoon of it. We recommend wearing bug spray if visiting in the spring or summer. Fort Frederica is operated by the National Park Service, so be sure to get your NPS…

“About an hour and half ride north. This lighthouse has a neat museum, and it 's just tall enough that you can make it up to the top.”
