The Hector Pieterson memorial and museum were established in order to honour the role of the country's students in the struggle against apartheid. The two commemorative sites are just few blocks from where Hector Pieterson was shot on 16 June 1976.
Most popular in the township of Soweto a 15minute drive should get you there no problems.
The Hector Pieterson Museum, preserves and interprets the oral testimonies and material culture from the tumultuous time leading up to the Soweto Uprising of 16 June 1976. It is named in honour of the child protestor, Hector Pieterson.
