In a city of museums, the Natural History museum is the one “must see” museum that has to be hit. They just remade their dinosaur exhibit and it’s fantastic. There are things to see for the entire family.
The National Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum administered by the Smithsonian Institution, located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., United States. It has free admission and is open 364 days a year.
The best museum to check. Don't forget to see the Hope diamond and go in the butterfly pavilion
This is such a comprehensive natural history museum, and they recently opened a new dinosaur and fossil wing, which is amazing. There are great activities for kids, including a butterfly pavilion and hands-on demonstrations by museum staff.
All Smithsonian museums are free, but on Tuesdays you can visit the exquisite butterfly exhibit for free too. My kids loved it and have asked to go back several times.

“The original batmobile, Dorothy's ruby slippers, the dresses from all of the US First Ladies, and all sorts of other neat, fun and interesting American History memorabilia. It's free, on the national mall, nearby lots of food trucks, and easily accessible from the Metro!”

“We like the East wing for the kids. The tunnel that connects the two buildings is not to be missed. Also the cafe has some of the best food of any of the museum's (but it's pricey). ”

“You can tour the White House, the iconic home of America’s president, by scheduling a visit in advance. Even if you are unable to schedule a visit, walk around to the back to get a closer view of the building.”
