The Museum is located adjacent to The Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle, County Mayo. Ballinglen Arts Foundation, is an Irish non-profit organisation founded by Margo Dolan and Peter Maxwell in 1992 that provides programmes designed to support serious artists making important work in ideal, inspiring conditions. Excitingly, the Ballinglen Museum of Contemporary Art is the first museum devoted to contemporary art in the west of Ireland. The new museum will have much needed storage for an archive of almost 800 works of art, created over the past twenty eight years by Ballinglen Fellows who have visited the region and stayed for weeks at a time, becoming part of the very fabric of the community.
