The rugged beauty of the Badlands draws visitors from around the world. These striking geologic deposits contain one of the world’s richest fossil beds. Ancient mammals such as the rhino, horse, and saber-toothed cat once roamed here. The park’s 244,000 acres protect an expanse of mixed-grass…

You should go to the Badlands. If you are in the Hills area and have the time, it's worth it. You should see this in your lifetime. Drive the loop, hike a couple short trails at the pull offs. It's unique and stunning. Also, pop in to Wall Drug for some free water and a pretty darn awesome…

Monument / Landmark
“The southeastern face of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota’s Black Hills National Forest is the site of four gigantic carved sculptures depicting the faces of U.S. Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Led by the sculptor Gutzon Borglum, work on the project began in 1927 and was finally completed in 1941. Over that time period, some 400 workers erected the sculpture under dangerous conditions, removing a total of 450,000 tons of rock in order to create the enormous carved heads, each of which reached a height of 60 feet (18 meters). In sculptor Gutzon Borglum’s original design, the four presidents were meant to be represented from the waist up, but insufficient funding brought the carving to a halt after completion of their faces. Known as the “Shrine of Democracy,” Mount Rushmore welcomes upwards of 2 million visitors every year, and is one of America’s most popular tourist attractions The Evening Lighting Ceremonies are held beginning in late May to September 30th each year. In 2019, due to construction, an approximately 20 minute lighting ceremony will include a ranger talk, playing of the national anthem, lighting of the memorial and a flag folding demonstration.”

“Lunch is such a delicious experience and the veranda is an added treat in the warmer seasons. Dinner has two choices, the size of steak and your beverage. Yum!”

“Experience award-winning South Dakota wines in a fun and relaxed setting. Free wine tastings with a brewery right next door. Menu items including gluten-free, vegetarian and kids' options. Patio seating with beautiful views of Black Elk Peak. What I love about this place, you can sample the wine for FREE!!! The place is family friendly although it is truly more suited for adults! Wild Bill, Calamity Jane, Red Ass Rhubarb and Gold Digger are my personal favorites. Disclaimer, I tend to favor a sweeter wine. ”

Zoo
“See their website page, but my 8 & 10 year old love Reptile Gardens. Yes lots of reptiles like snakes, alligators etc. They also have a botanical garden with beautiful plants which houses some birds, lizards, turtle, and snakes. They usually have several shows throughout the day that are fantastically entertaining. Note it does depend on time of year when Reptile Gardens is open.”
