This beautiful indigenous forest hiking trail, with 1000 year-old trees, is open daily from 8am – 5pm. It is a gentle, undemanding walk, taking between 1 and 2.5 hours to complete, depending how long you sit on the benches or how long you spend playing in the labyrinth made from sea shells. Directions - Roughly 5km outside of Gansbaai you will reach the Uilenkraalsmond intersection. Turn left here and follow the tar road. After approximately 6.5km you will come to a gravel road to your left. Turn left here. After about 1.6km you will see a turnoff over a cattle grid on your left hand side, signed ‘Platbos Forest’. Turn left onto this road.

There is no magic more pure than the magic I have found in these ancient forests. The trees whisper their secrets and the soft beach sand underfoot beckons you to toss your shoes aside and dig your toes in. Bring a picnic basket as there are benches along the routes.
