“It is one of the most important preserved Early Christian monuments on the Greek territory, and even the largest in size. According to tradition, the original building of this church was the work of the Byzantine Emperor and Saint Constantine to fulfill the wish of his mother, St. Helen. At this point it is stated that during the voyage of King Helen to the Holy Land, due to a great sea disturbance, the ship that was forced to flee to Paros. There, praying for St. Helen to the Virgin Mary, patron of Constantinople, she completed her journey to build a magnificent church dedicated to the Assumption. This tomb was built by Constantine's son Constantine, building a three-aisled basilica around the 4th century. Eventually, with the various modifications and additions, the building of Ekatontapyliani now became a blended architecture with early Christian, Byzantine and even post-Byzantine architectural elements, which were occasionally added to form an ideal study. Considering that the early Christians chose sites of ancient temples with the building materials of which they built their own temples, the Ekatontapyliani complex also includes marble parts from antiquity, thus highlighting a continuity from that time to the present day.”

“Located in the mountainous village of Lefkes, the Church of Agia Triada is a Byzantine temple of unique architectural importance. Dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the church is the second largest on the island and was originally established on the previous location of three smaller ones (Agia Anna, Analipsi and Agios Georgios). The construction operations began in 1830 and were completed in 1835. The impressive church belongs to the basilica type, with a three-aisle pattern, including skillfully fashioned arches. The bell towers, on the left and the right side accordingly are delightful examples of architectural mastery.”
