The highway between Canon City and Sailda, known as the River Road to the locals, is incredibly beautiful. Good chance you will see big horn sheep and possibly a bald eagle pair or two. There are picnic areas along the river that are serviced by BLM. Nice place for picnics and watching the rafters take the big waves. You'll need to purchase a day pass right there one of the many at the picnic areas, but the fee is nominal and it goes to a good cause. Check out Five Points for great vantage point for raft watching.
