Food Scene

One of our favorite cafes is located just around the corner! Bloc cafe boasts a lovely, spacious interior that is at once industrial and cozy. The coffee is strong and the breakfast sandwiches are the absolute best! We go here every single week and it is a staple in the community. We highly suggest going at least once! :)

On Saturday's from 9 AM to 1 PM in May and going until November the Union Square Farmer's Market boasts vendors from all over Massachusetts! With live music, coffee stands, produce, deli, bread, and various other vendors, the Union Square Farmer's Market really has a little bit of everything. And while many traditional farmers markets have soaring prices the USFM is reasonably priced and a great way to support local businesses!

Union Square Donuts is a nationally renowned donut shop (no joke, it was on a list of best donut shops in the U.S.) located just across the street from our apartment. The donuts really are *that* amazing and we recommend either the maple bacon or the toasted coconut! Pair it with a nitro cold brew coffee and you're good to go.

Drinks & Nightlife

Backbar is our favorite cocktail bar in the city and it just so happens to be a 5 minute walk from our apartment. It is located in an alleyway with a few other great spots and is Somerville's best kept secret! Backbars cocktails are truly handcrafted and the experience is second to none, as the staff are all incredibly friendly.

This is a neighborhood must! The Independent has some of the best comfort food and beer in the greater Somerville area. We come here pretty much once a week for drinks and dinner (and on Wednesday's for trivia)! The Independent (or the Indo as many locals lovingly refer to it as) is sort of one of those never-fail spots, where the food and service is always good and the community vibes are chill.

Sightseeing

Harvard Square, home to Harvard University, is one of the most iconic spots in Cambridge and Somerville and the most high-trafficked spot on this side of the river. It is impossible to list out all of the different cafe's, restaurants, shops, bars, entertainment venues, concert halls, etc....you just have to see it for yourself!

Parks & Nature

Prospect Hill Park is a hidden gem, perched on top of Prospect Hill (our neighborhood) and overseeing all of Cambridge and Somerville and the Boston skyline. What looks like an old citadel is actually the site of the raising of the first American flag (pretty neat huh?). Pack yourself a picnic and lay out in the summer sun up at this secret spot, just a few minutes up the hill from our place!

Essentials

Reliable Market is a wonderful little market located ~3 minutes from our apartment. It boasts all different types of asian foods, both prepared and to take away as groceries. We love stopping here for a snack (green tea mochi) or for dinner (beef bulgogi)!

Shopping

You can literally get lost in Ricky's Flower Market for an hour or so, just perusing the different plants and flowers that are available. This place is a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, and while it's an atypical shopping experience it's really like a lush garden where one can pick up everything from christmas trees in winter to funky air plants in the summer.
