Everything Else

Mont Rochelle is owned by the one and only Sir Richard Branson. Book a table and enjoy the perfect afternoon with superb wine, food and even giant lawn darts. Also a great spot for a picnic! I hear ‘sur le grapevine’ that there is to be a revamp of the food offering here which I hope just means it’s going to get even better! It’s a nice space outside with room for families and lots of secluded shady nooks if you want a bit of privacy. Good wines as well.

This Saturday morning market is usually in full swing by 9am and is something open extra hours during summer and holidays (they turn it into a all-day or night market). Think affordable local food and produce, coffee, and some quirky arts, crafts and souvenirs. It's small and quaint and is the perfect stop for a fresh juice and breakfast after the 8am park run at Rickety Bridge.

Entertainment & Activities

Too much wining and dining can make you feel a little sluggish, so hopping on a bike and then appreciating that next glass of vino can be rewarding and a whole heap of fun with great friends. You can hire a bike from Franschhoek Cycles and see the town from a different perspective. Ask for advice on routes.

Probably one of the most prominent features of Franschhoek is the Huguenot Monument. It’s impossible to miss, perched at the end of the Main Road. The statue is dedicated to the influences that the French Huguenots brought the Cape Colony and you can learn all about their ways of life and their reasons for settling in this valley at the Huguenot Memorial Museum. Entrance is R10 for the museum and also for the monument. Website: www.museum.co.za Tel: 021-876-2532
