Arts & Culture

Florence, the Centre of the Renaissance in the 15th and 16th centuries has more art per sq meter than any other place in the world. Every church is laden with religion painting thanks to the patronage of the famous Medici Family who sponsored extraordinary buildings, sculpture and painting for over two centuries from the early works of Giotto to the high renaissance of Michealangelo. Most popular art gallaries like the Ufficci should be booked in advance to avoid hours of queueing. Recommended famous artworks apart from the extraordinary main Duomo with Gates of Paradise, are the Sculptures by Michealangelo in the Academia and San Lorenzo church, the painting of Fra Angelico in San Marco and the historic painting of Giotto in Santa Croce.
