I recommend taking walks in this area. It is beautiful and if you walk down from Munkkiniemi to Hietaniemi, you get a nice stretch of coast and architecture from different eras. One of my favourite areas for a stroll in Helsinki.

When you live in a city all your life, it's sometimes hard to appreciate the obvious touristy parts of it. Suomenlinna is touristy, but at the same time it is one of a kind. There's no other place in Helsinki quite like it. It's worth a picnic on a sunny day. Just beware of the seagulls.

The old loon house grounds are located in a picturesque area. There's a good secret picnic spot right at the end, behind the building where they used to have a beach for girls suffering from eating disorders.
