Food Scene

For upmarket interesting food, and good cocktails (try the Pelicano) and great atmosphere (eat at the bar or in the courtyard), this place rivals Hectors. Yum. Late nights are fine. They have recently started serving breakfast as well as lunch and dinner.

Fantastic fantastic fantastic. Hector is so talented he would be successful in any city in the world. International with often a Mexican twist, and by far the best cocktails in town. Not cheap but what the hell this is Mexico, you are paying not much for anything else. The Mojitos are as good as in Cuba, the risotto as good as anywhere in the world. Go on, dress up a bit, it's a special night.

People love the coffee, it's in a great spot, the breakfasts are special (try one of the breakfast burritos, or anything else on the menu really), cakes brilliant though of sharing size, and smoothies and chai lattes and frappes and great. From early morning to about 11ish. This is a great place for sunset for some parts of the year.

This is a real Mexican place, with all the benefits. They sell beer and great food for almost nothing. Open from about 2pm 7 days. There's no dish to avoid.

Sightseeing

While we wrote "sightseeing', the Plazuela is so much more than a place to see. It has the feeling of Mexico, and is surrounded by restaurants. In particular try Gaia. The cocktails are watered down (not uncommon here) so if you are a cocktail drinker take a flask to add with, or just stick to wine, but the food and atmosphere are both wonderful. There is a salmon dish topped with almonds, which is unbelievably good. Or just walk around the Plaza, particularly on Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights. What atmosphere!

Drinks & Nightlife

Because Olas Altas is one of the great spots of Mexico. Watch sunset from here. Drink at outside tables with locals. Make memories. Walk the malecon, the long concrete 'boardwalk' alongside the beach. Enjoy all the locals sitting on the seawall and enjoying the good times in their lives with friends and family. Rich.

Everything Else

The Malecon goes for miles, and you can walk it, get a Pulmonia (the local, almost golf cart little cool cars) to drive you along it (talk to us about prices) or bike or blade it on rented gear from Baika, the store about half way through the Olas Altas curve. Serious fun. A bit north of the Deer Monument are the stalls, out weekend evenings and any days anything is happening. The corn isn't as you are used to, but the whole atmosphere is priceless.

Entertainment & Activities

Cliff Divers! OK not as long a dive as some places but great fun to see. The divers themselves will want to drum up a crowd so if you go down to the entrance to their diving area, a 5 minute walk north along the beach from Su Casa, they will find you to negotiate the cost of your view of a dive. Don't go when you are in a hurry, they want as big a crowd as possible - sometimes it takes a long time to drum up enough. They dive at night during high tourist times, using torches, quite interesting.
