Food Scene

One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the city. Next to the Sonic.

OK. It's fast food. But you cant beat Sonic for great shakes, slushies and tots. Also, it's within walking distance of the house. Just be careful crossing Nacogdoches as it is a busy street.

Blocks from the house - Neighborhood Tex-Mex + more traditional Mexican fair at a very reasonable price. They make their tortillas (even the corn ones) in house. Good place for a cheap meal.

Everything Else

This is just north of downtown, but worth the 15 drive. Shopping, Fine-dining, Riverwalk access and they have a nice Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings. This is in an up-and-coming part of the city.

5-10 minute drive - Shopping, Dining (mostly chains but still OK), Whole Foods (if you really want to spend that much) and next to a Golf Course. BTW we have dozens of Golf Courses in San Antonio.

Sightseeing

To get a real idea of what a mission looked like and why their are 5 of them along the San Antonio River you must visit this one first. Then, if your a real history buff, get info on the other 4 here.

Nuf said.... Just kidding. If you don't know the history of the Alamo and the Missions in San Antonio, and you have the time, visit Mission San Jose first. Also across the street from the Riverwalk.

The Riverwalk (touristy -"yes," but still worth it,) Mexican Market, buildings dating back to the 17th century etc., etc. all withing a 2 mile radius. Why not take an architectural or ghost tour ?
