One of Japan's most renowned shrines, Sumiyoshi Taisha is the head of approximately 2,300 Sumiyoshi shrines throughout Japan.
At the beginning of each year, more than 2 million worshippers visit the shrine to pray for health
and prosperity in the coming year.
Encompassed by natural beauty, the shrine grounds overflow with spiritual spots offering a profound sense of history,
such as the Sorihashi arched bridge (Taikobashi) - an emblem of Sumiyoshi Taisha - sacred trees over 1,000 years old,
numerous cultural properties, and the main shrine hall, which is a designated national treasure.

Including partially collapsed mounds, Mozu Kofungun consists of 44 tombs, among them 22 keyhole-shaped tombs, 17 round tombs, and 5 square tombs. Originally the Tumuli numbered more than 100.

The 360 degree view from the 8th floor observation room is also amazing. Allow yourself to slip into a pensive mood and feel the weight of the castle's history as you see the turrets from the Tokugawa period and the gigantic stones in the wall that bring to mind how difficult it must have been to build it.

Uehommachi, on the eastern edge of the Uemachi Plateau, is a historical area and also a convenient transportation hub connecting to Iseshima and Nara.
