It's easy to walk to Syntagma Square (or else Constitution Square) from home. It's a 20-25 minute walk. Go to the Old Royal Palace, which today is the Hellenic Parliament. The Palace was completed in 1843. You should watch the switch of the presidential guard every hour sharp. If you happen to be in the city on a Sunday, be there at 11 in the morning. The switch is spectacular.

A small part of the Plaka, directly at the bottom of the Acropolis rock, built by islanders of Santorini and Anafi in the 19th century. They were brought to Athens by King Otto for the erection of the Royal Palace, so they created their own little village that reminded them of their islands; tiny streets, white-washed walls and flowers in their little yards. A picturesque sight that you will definitely love.
