One of the world's most famous red-light districts, Patpong is where Thailand's Go-Go culture all started. Its two parallel side-streets, found between Silom and Surawongse Roads, house dozens of neon-lit strip bars offering naughty shows and the famous pole-dancing entertainment. Patpong has long since been usurped as the 'king of the scene' by Soi Cowboy, its counterpart around Sukhumvit.Mainly for sightseers more interested in seeing the famous spot for themselves. Location: Located between Silom and Surawong Roads, it's within easy walking distance from the Skytrain station (Sala Daeng) or the MRT station (Silom).

Soi Cowboy was named after the cowboy hat-wearing African-American who opened the first bar here in the early 1970s, this red-light district has a more laid-back, carnival-like feel to it than Patpong or Nana Plaza. Flashing neon lights up a colourful streetscape of 20 or so A go-go bars that line its sides. Don't be shy, it's pretty easygoing and open-minded, entry is always free and drink's prices are fixed. A huge, three-headed elephant statue standing upon an equally gargantuan pedestal is the first, and last, thing you see when visiting Samut Prakan's Erawan Museum. It's a splendid, towering beast: 250 tons in weight, 29 metres high, 39 metres long, and cast in a pure green-hued copper. From conception to completion it took almost ten years to construct. With a proud, war-like demeanor and trunks the size of ancient Banyan Trees, this is an epic image of Hindu mythology's Airavata (otherwise known as Erawan) you'll never forget. Opening Hours: Everyday 8:00-17:00 Location: Sukhumvit Road, Samut Prakan How to get there: From the BTS Skytrain On Nut Station, take a taxi to the museum .

A simulation flight is an extra-special gift for everyone, from young children who dream of being pilots to those who have a passion for planes, and according to research it can even help those who are scared of flying find their wings. The experience feels so realistic that the cockpit in Bangkok has even been used in films and TV shows, and although it isn’t a bargain, it still costs significantly less than in Australia or Europe. BTS: Ekkamai Address: Gateway Ekamai, 2nd Floor, Sukumvit road, Klong Toey, Phra Khanong, Bangkok

Amphawa is the second most popular floating market near Bangkok, not as large as Damnoen Saduak but more authentic, with visitors almost exclusively Thai. Located 50 km from Bangkok this once small village was apparently already present in the mid-Seventeenth Century. It has become such a magnet for Thai weekenders that food stalls have grown from the riverbanks and stretched far into the surrounding streets. The main draw is of course eating seafood grilled procariously on wooden boats moored around the famous central bridge, serving an appetizing array of huge prawns, shellfish and squid. Opening Hours: Saturday - Sunday
