Situated on one hundred and ten acres, they are surrounded by magnificent rainforest with spectacular views of the Glasshouse Mountains. Over 6 kilometres of walking paths meander around thousands of different plants, ranging from roses, azaleas and annuals to some of the rarest cycads in the world. All of which are complemented by numerous lakes and waterfalls – providing countless options for photography. Aviary An Aviary covering over 1000 m2 opened on November 16th 2013, currently housing over 300 birds. From Australian cockatoos and lorikeets to exotic parrots and macaws, you will meet hundreds of cheeky and colourful birds, many of whom will land right on your shoulder. In our animal enclosure next to the aviary you can pat our friendly alpacas, goat, sheep, chickens, ducks and guineafowl, as well as a miniature horse and donkey. The Sunshine Castle is a medieval museum/tourist attraction and function venue. It promotes history, encourages education and facilitates unique celebrations. Much in the tradition of Castles all around the world the Sunshine Castle captures the imagination of old and young alike. A stand out landmark in this location this Norman style Castle, with medieval additions, complete with moat, turrets, towers and drawbridge is totally unique in Australia. The Castle is filled with medieval displays and other exhibitions that you are able to explore at your own pace in a self walk tour. Wander over the drawbridge into another time and feast with Kings in the Great Hall or squalor in shame in the dungeon. The Castle keep is a 24 metre look out tower that offers stunning views from Coast to Hinterland. An interactive treasure hunt for children and the young at heart with the opportunity to get dressed up in themed head gear leads to a free treat from the King’s treasure chest. A history shields tour offers detailed information on the medieval elements of the Castle and history. Opening hours We are open daily from 9.30am - 4.30pm The Castle is closed on Christmas Day. Open late on New Years Day - from 10.30am. For commemorative purposes open only from 1pm on ANZAC Day (25th of April) Occasionally we close a little early (ie last entry around 3.15pm) for the public to enable a wedding ceremony to take place in privacy this will be announced on the Sunshine Castle Facebook page at least 24 hours in advance. Other foreseen changes to opening hours will always be announced on Facebook where possible.
