OMG! The Grand Olde Station Restaurant is so sweet. After a hike at Gorges, it's PERFECT. The view is amazing. The food is great. The vibe is SUPER chilll. I can't believe I didn't take a picture.

Okay - this place has so much SPIRIT. It's tucked away in an ally, with a big lovely porch. And the food is SUPER yummy and unique with a fusion thing that's always surprising. AND they have a great bar scene -- so when the restaurants booked, eat in the bar. Rest assured, you will probably have a great conversation with your food here as everyone's friendly at the bar.

And you can text in orders -- so after that big hike, when you are TIRED and just want to get a slice and go back home to chill out... Jet's has you covered. SO YUMMY!

If you like a big grocery store with every item you ever imagined you might need, including cookies, wine, and ROAST PORK TENDERLOIN -- Ingles is your store. Honestly, we end up here all the time, and so does 1/2 the town. It's clean, friendly and incredibly well stocked.

The playground, which honors the life of a local child gone too soon, Jameson, is based on the Ninja Warrior show and looks like a premium child experience.

So many great hikes branch from here! You'll experience the beautiful forest, the rushing water, the moss and slate rocks and small and large waterfalls that come with the rains. AND you can swim (when there are no flood warnings) or fish. And it’s a great picnic spot. 5 mins from the Oakwood Hideaway.

A natural waterslide, this is a waterfall you can ride. Take advantage of your proximity to get there early in the summertime. This spot is POPULAR, and they limit the number of people who can come. There is also a parking charge.

With less traffic than the other two, this is a well-cared-for state park with a fantastic interpretive center and many fun hikes. We like the Rainbow Falls Hike, which is a beauty in and of itself but has a CHALLENGE round with two more minor falls up the hill past it.
Oh, and if you’re hungry after your adventure, there’s a CUTE place on lake Toxaway, The Grand Olde Station Restaurant, with Lakeside Dining TO DIE FOR! 502 Blue Ridge Rd. Lake Toxaway, NC 28747
Many people love this trail, which is tucked away above the Brevard Music Center, for mountain biking. And it purportedly connects to the bike trails that you can access from our house. But Ben and I are more hikers. And I have a real affection for looking at mushrooms. This was a nice uphill hike. Lots of trees and peaceful. And many weird mushrooms.

A quick and fun intro to the Pisgah National Forest is just 8 mins from your Oakwood Hideaway. There you can learn all about the forest that surrounds Brevard, and get yourself oriented to various outdoor opportunities.
Then walk across the parking lot to Andy’s Cove Nature Trail - this is a 1/2 mile loop with boardwalks, beautiful plants, rushing water, and a suspension bridge. A great way to start to feel out the forest. There are some steep parts.
