Sightseeing

There are often events on for children here in the summer, including dressing up as pirates or knights, birds of prey and story telling. The views across the estuary are awesome and its a lovely place to be.

Catch the ferry from Falmouth and enjoy a trip across the estuary to St Mawes. Great ice cream, galleries and food. Then you can head to St Mawes castle for an audio tour and some sight seeing.

A great indoor option if the weather is not good. There are different themed exhibitions, at high tide you can view under the sea and downstairs make sure you have a go on the model boats they are great fun!

We don't have many woods down here and Tehidy is my favourite. If you are looking for somewhere cool on a hot day, there are a range of routes you can follow for a walk, a cafe and a stream to play in.

Godrevy beach is another North coast beach that is really nice. You can park in the first National Trust car park and head to the beach or drive on to the next car park and walk up the hill. From here you get a great view of the lighthouse on your way past but you can also head directly up from the car park and peer carefully over the cliff edge to see the seals. Depending on the time of year the beach is littered with seals.

Catch a ferry to somewhere. Look up Falriver to view the different ferries. For example catch a ferry from Falmouth to Truro for lunch, or Falmouth to St Mawes to see the castle and get an ice cream. It is a fun way to travel, with lots to see.

Falmouth has lots of shops to explore and enjoy. Trago Mills is a must visit as it has whatever you are looking for and a load of stuff you didn't know you wanted. You can play the game of who can find the best thing for under £5!

Adventure

Ali hires out kayaks and SUPs at this sheltered spot on the estuary. You can head off and explore the creeks looking for kingfishers and herons. Plus paddle over to Turnaware point to view the memorial stone commemorating the D-Day embarkation from there. You can then walk up the hill and enjoy views of the estuary with a picnic. Or paddle round to the Pandora Inn. A delightful pub on the edge of the water for a bit of lunch or a refreshing drink. Alternatively Martin runs sailing lessons and kids clubs.

Go and see Matt at Stithians Watersports Centre. They run kids clubs, and adult sessions in lots of different watersports such as windsurfing, sailing, SUPing and winging. They also hire out kit. There is a cafe and the walk around the lake is a nice one too. Plus there is a small play park.

Hire bikes and ride the bike trail from coast to coast, Portreath to Devoran. The bike hire is two thirds of the way along the route so you can also head to one end and back. This is a gentle track that is good for a family to explore. If you have your own bikes there are also lots of other bike trails to explore such as the camel trail (Wadebridge to Padstow) and the Great Flat Lode near Redruth.

Food scene

here you will find the Muddy cafe which I hear does a good spread. There are also artists that run workshops such as a screen printer, and other shops.

This has been run by the same family since Mark was growing up here. It is an old folly on top of a hill that has been turned into a restaurant. I believe it only seats 24 at a time. It is compact and very atmospheric. They often let you out on to the roof to admire the view, you can see from the North to the South coast. The middle eastern cuisine is delicious, I recommend the baklava.

This is another generally sheltered beach. It is a little further on from Swanpool and that can mean it might be a little quieter as it is that bit further out of Falmouth.

One of my favourite stretches of sand! If you are looking for waves and surfing you will need to head over to the North coast and Gwithian is a lovely place to go. It has lots of space in the dunes for a walk if you want to be away from the crowds or head on down to the beach and enjoy the gorgeous white sand and blue sea. There is Sunset surf that offer surfing lessons and the Jampot cafe that does fantastic cake.
