Eating in Central City

Neighborhoods

Located between the Lower Garden District and New Orleans’ Central Business District or CBD is Central City – an area deeply connected to the Civil Rights Movement and Mardi Gras, including the Mardi Gras Indians. Super Sunday, the Sunday closest to St. Joseph's Day (March 19) is a spectacular event found nowhere else on Earth. Visit Oretha Castle Haley or Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and you’ll see beautiful murals, brass bands and local food.

Food scene

Originally a seasonal snowball stand, it is now a local spot for Yet-ca-mein, Po-boys, seafood plates, chicken wings and more. The snowballs are unbelievably refreshing, especially with a pour of sweetened, condensed milk on top!

The mission of Cafe Reconcile is enough to earn a visit. Cafe Reconcile has been providing at-risk young adults with the opportunity to learn the skills for successfully entering the food service industry since 1996. The food is great too!

Don't let the location fool you! Down home southern fare at it's finest. The blackened/fried fish, gumbo, red beans and rice don't get no better! Their signature Crawdat sauce is also not to be missed!
