Black Mountain is located a short 10-minute drive east (from Fernwood) on route 70 or I-40. This quaint little town. Named for a mountain range that towers over the town, Black Mountain has become a haven for pioneers in the world of art, painting, music, poetry, and architectural design. Want to get out for a hike? This area has many options for all skill type. Visit Pisgah National Forest for a large selection of trails. Take a trip to DuPont State Forest or Catawba Falls to take in a moderate hike to some of the most understated views in Western North Carolina. Mt. Mitchell or Chimney Rock are a close option as well if you choose a more well-traveled path. In the fall months during peak foliage, do not miss a drive into nature by traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. The downtown area in to be missed! The Welcome Center has launched a student art project painting rocking chairs with colorful art for all locals and visitors to enjoy during their visit to town. There is so much charm in the few downtown blocks. The locals are eclectic and vibrant and welcome visitors. Dozens of rocking chairs are scattered around the streets of downtown from late spring through early fall each year. The amazing rocking chairs are such favorites of the region, it has dubbed Black Mountain the "front porch." Each year, in October, the chairs are auctioned off to make way for new batch of chairs. Live music is something Black Mountain has prided itself. Check out the line up at the White Horse Black Mountain. You can hear a mix of bluegrass, jazz, classical, or perhaps Celtic melodies. Are you looking for a unique souvenir? Check out Cherry Street gift shops. There's something for everyone. Stop off for a small bite or lunch at one of the local eateries. There just so much to choose from. We love Dripolator Coffeehouse. They have a great choice of coffee and tea with great non-dairy options. There are great options for local breweries (that is a popular draw to Asheville after all!). Check out more details in this online guide under "Breweries." Black Mountain was named one of the best small mountain towns in the South by the readers of Southern Living!

Serving Asheville with imaginative and locally influenced array of handcrafted ice cream, this is a great place to seek out for dessert. There are a few locations throughout Asheville; one location in Black Mountain. They offer vegan and dairy-free options. You can take home a pint or quart (no judgement!) to enjoy during your visit. I'm listing this under family fun because no visit to The Hop has denied us of just that, family fun.

If you're out and about, and happen upon Standard Pizza, grab a slice. It's worth it - and that's coming from a previous New Yorker. There are 2 locations. We are featuring the location on Biltmore Ave. because of its proximity to High-wire Brewing; on the opposite side of the parking lot.

This is a must stop on your downtown tour. The coffee and chocolate here are worthy of a special stop. Bring home a gift for your dog sitter! We suggest a special truffle box with some of the most decadent chocolates. We've sampled them against some of the best Swiss chocolate and we're impressed.

Black Mountain Area South African spin on some of the classics. This place is unique! There are chickens, donkeys, a pig (named Candy), and a couple of goats. Very cool and true farm-to-table concept. It’s off the beaten path (not by much - short car ride), but worth the stop. Known for dinner but they host an excellent brunch as well. They are adding a small stage to offer live music.
