Our newest addition to the upscale Mexican restaurant scene. Sometimes the wait here is long, but the food is well worth the wait. If the saying about judging a Mexican/Tex-Mex/Latin restaurant by its chips and salsa is true, then it will only take you a couple of seconds to know that you're in for a treat of a meal at MM. You know those perfect chips - not too thick but not too thin that they break when you dip them in the salsa? They've got 'em. The salsa is SOOO flavorful with just the right amount of heat. If the weather permits, their patio is where you want to grub down. It's covered and comfortable! The ceviche is soooo good - bright, fresh, and full of seafood. The Del Mar enchiladas are incredible. And, I don't know what they do to their rice but seriously, I've never had rice so good. Ah-maze-zing. The enchiladas are fab too - stuffed full of shrimp and crab and covered in a creamy tomatillo sauce - so good you'll want to order take-out.

There’s nothing quite like Lakewood Smokehouse, the newest restaurant to open in Lakewood Shopping Center, in the neighborhood. There’s Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum and Oasis Smokehouse but this is walking distance and is known for fresh BBQ. We describe it as “upscale barbecue,” although don’t think that means your kids aren’t welcome. It’s still a barbecue joint, after all, and they have a $5 kids menu. What this means is everything on the menu has been meticulously prepared, from the popular sliced brisket and ribs right down to the cheesy corn bake and hand-breaded fried okra. They don’t serve yesterday’s meats. They cook ribs throughout the day. All their meats are smoked fresh. And, get their smoked cheeseburger. Most smoked cheeseburgers taste like overcooked, dry meatballs. This burger is finished on the grill, and it’s enriched with deep smoke and good beef flavor. Get it with cheddar or Swiss, if you’re looking for a sharper cheese. There’s thick, still crispy bacon on top of the patty. Red onions, lettuce and tomato rest underneath, accepting meat juices into their open LTO arms (medium rare is the way to go). They also come with some of the best french fries in Lakewood.

What a gem of a place! I wish there were more restaurants like this. I love the fact that you can get scrambled eggs anytime of day, in many different menu items. I usually have the egg scramble with Buffalo, spinach, scrambled eggs, onions, mushrooms, guacamole, and salsa. Friends usually order the scrambled eggs and chicken fried steak. They have a special jalapeno jam mixed into this recipe, which gives it a slightly sweet taste. Very unique. Everything on their menu is gluten-free except the toast, pancakes and biscuits, but you can get gluten free versions of those as well. All of their beef is grass fed. They even make their own Kombucha! I had to the pineapple super greens. They also offer a good selection of gluten-free desserts.

Exquisite taste and quality of Mexican food. Expansive menu includes traditional Tex-mex, and all kinds of seafood and sauces and meats. Good luck deciding. It is all delicious. I like how you can order really good tasting cooked vegetables and also baked potato as sides and can loose your mind picking out Mexican flavors and seafood (fish, shrimp, ceviche). This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. And yes there is a lot of good competition but hard to compete with a place with this much variety.

We have been here several times. They have a very complete menu and I have yet to have a bad meal. Serving sizes are generous. I particularly like the salads and pasta dishes. Whenever we come here, we order from basically every category (pasta, sandwich, burger, pizza, soup and salad). I like the Roasted Vegetarian pizza and sometimes the BBQ Burger. Also good is their Tuna Salad Sandwich, Sundried Tomato Penne, Pesto Chicken Breast Pasta, Pasta Fresca and Vegetarian Sandwich (I order this often). I like their Tomato Basil Soup. The Caesar Salad is good, but it has too much dressing for my liking.

The Regina Margherita pizza at Olivella’s 6465 E .Mockingbird Lane, No. 525 One of the best pizza pies in Dallas is the margherita, with house-made mozzarella, tomato sauce, a mild and nutty white cheese and basil. The pizza’s best with a simple arugula salad on the side, tossed lightly with olive oil and salt. The peppery arugula, when dropped over the fresh tomato pie, makes it sing. Olivella’s patio comes with heat in the winter and mist in the summer.

The clubhouse at Unleavened 1900 Abrams Parkway Sweet Santa Claus pants, it’s health food that doesn’t suck! Lakewood's got a new 'round-the-clock option for pancakes, eggs, and booze: Local diner favorite Buzzbrews is located at Skillman and Live Oak. Expect all the same menu favorites as the other Buzzbrews locations, including stuffed crepes, banana nut pancakes, and the beloved "Mr.C" (a chorizo and cheese scramble with a side of garlic potatoes). The bar here is considerably more well-stocked than the other Buzzbrews locales, with more than 30 craft beers on tap plus wine, mixed drinks, and perhaps best of all, cold, bubbly prosecco on tap.

We always enjoy stopping by Times Ten Cellars. They usually have pizza from Urban Crust Pizza on Wednesday nights from 6-9 p.m. They also have a small menu of their own with salads, dips, cheese board

“The Rustic For whatever reason, most of Dallas doesn't exactly feel like Texas, unless you're drinking at The Rustic. There's usually a country act on stage, and cowboys from far away have been known to come all this way just to court Uptown girls. Not feeling social? Grab a beer and order the quail if you can find a seat. You'll still be happy you came here.”

“Katy Trail Ice House Katy Trail Ice House is sometimes so big it's overwhelming, but if you're an Uptowner at heart, this is where you'll want to spend every outdoor Rangers-watching session you can fit in till they win the pennant this fall. “Goodfriend Beer nerds pay attention. Goodfriend has one of the best patios for dorking out on suds. If a local brewery is going to release a special issue beer, there's a solid chance it's on tap here, often before the other bars even take delivery of their kegs. Mix in the strong neighborhood following and the massive roll-up doors that bring the patio weather inside, and you've got one of the better places in Dallas for drinking, whether the heat of summer has arrived or not.”

First, you should know that the grub here is quite good. It's not all greasy pub food. Secondly, you should know the patio is lovely. With a nice view of the Lakewood Theatre, it's surprisingly scenic for the area. Thirdly, I've always had great service here. The bartenders and wait staff are friendly, helpful, and patient.

“Great for outdoorsy, yoga and travel items, as well as cool books and gifts for your smart, funny friends. Whole Earth Provisions is the perfect stop, whether you actually need something, or your hunter gatherer instincts are just surfacing and you want to pass some time shopping. I also really like their shoe selection. When I was preparing for a trip to Germany, I was able to find some travel accessories here that REI either doesn't carry, or were simply out of. I was also able to find gifts and goodies to take as host gifts to our German family. The location is convenient to my job, so that is a bonus. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the check-out process tends to be quick and simple.”

“I've been a customer of Canal Clothing for nearly three years now. It's a fantastic place to shop for unique and well-made clothing. I've never had a personal shopper until I met Mary Ann, the owner. She has such a sense of style and gets to know you and your likes. Now, when I go to shop, she calls me by name and starts pulling things off the rack to show me. She's persuaded me to try on things I would never have chosen myself, but they look good. There's not a thing I've bought that doesn't get a compliment, followed by "where did you get that?" If you want a boutique shopping experience but not at the high-end prices, check it out. The selection of blank pants alone is worth the trip. ”

“I had to have some towels embroidered and didn't know where to go. I found this business and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. She was able to get my order done in two days and had tons of fonts, colors of string, and lettering to choose from. The owner is extremely professional and friendly and went out of her way to make sure I was happy. It was a little more expensive than I would have thought, but her work is phenomenal! (Just fyi, she doesn't take credit cards and the actual location is 718 Buckner Blvd.) I would highly recommend her services and would definitely go see her again for my embroidery needs. Awesome business!”

“I stopped in The Gypsy Wagon after a friend recommended it, and am so glad I discovered this store. It's my new favorite boutique in Dallas! Whether you're going to try on clothes or just perusing, you can spend quite a bit of time as this shop is full of goodies! The front half of the store has a great selection of home goods, stationary, and jewelry. You can find seasonal items, cute girly things, and Texas/Western items. As you get deeper into the store you come to the clothing. While many of the clothes are very bohemian, you can find great pieces and accessories (especially leather goods) even if Boho/Western isn't your personal style. The home goods and knick knacks are pretty affordable, and most of the clothes/handbags are a bit pricier. The jewelry really varies in price, and you can find pieces as low as $20. LOVE LOVE LOVE this boutique and can't wait to stop back in next time I'm in town.”

Every time I go it is packed with fun, hip Dallas locals. They have a wide variety of clothes to choose from and the best part about it you are going to leave with a gently used item that no one else has.Sure the price sometimes can be a little spendy but for me it's worth it. “Pretty interesting thrift shop. Jimi Hendrix (the owner, who always has wine and a record playing it seems) has a huge collection of random stuff and the wares he has seems to change a good amount from month to month. There is art, movies, record players, records, clothes etc. etc. I recently bought a record from here two days ago and it plays just fine, I like stopping by and going through his records and finding a new gem. Also in the past I have bought (what I like to think) stylish blazers to wear out and about or even work. Though Greenville may be overtaken by Uptown crowds, I think Jimi's place will always be a nice refuge.”

Though Greenville may be overtaken by Uptown crowds, I think Jimi's place will always be a nice refuge.”

DOT's Closet is a store front for DOT. … This store is serendipity perfected. I always leave with something better than I was looking for. This isn't a quick glance around to see what they have kind of place. They have A LOT of stuff so you have to spend some time and hunt. I have found stuff from Vera Bradley, The Sak, Tommy Bahama, Brooks Brothers, Zegna, J Crew, Banana Republic, Coach, TUMI, West Elm, etc. They have a huge collection of vintage cookbooks and kitchen items. “Now, about the sweaters. These are the real deal. You can tell these were someone's beloved, homemade, grandma-knitted sweaters. Each of them are unique and completely bizarre, but exactly what you want in an ugly Christmas sweater. Fantastic sweaters, with even better customer service. I couldn't recommend this shop more.”

Sightseeing

Fitzhugh Ave, Northeast of downtown, Dallas, TX 75204 Swiss Avenue became the first paved street in the entire city of Dallas. The surfacing material selected was bois d’arc block (horseapple tree wood), known for its extreme density and durability. A trolley line was installed to provide residents with convenient transportation to the downtown business and shopping districts, and a railway spur track was laid in what is now the alleyway between Swiss and Gaston, allowing residents who were well-heeled enough to own private rail cars to simply board at the rear of their homes and travel to anyplace the rails could transport them. Today, Swiss Avenue stands as the finest example of an early 20th Century neighborhood in the entire Southwest. Its eclectic mix of homes, spanning its 2 ½ mile stretch, represent virtually every popular residential design style of the day, including Mediterranean, Spanish, Spanish Revival, Georgian, Mission, Prairie, Carftsman, Neoclassical, Italian Renaissance, Tudor and Colonial Revival. It has evolved from one man’s unique experiment in planned urban development to become a living testament to America’s architectural diversity.”

“The largest zoological experience in Texas, the 106-acre Dallas Zoo offers fun, educational and entertaining experiences for the whole family. The Zoo's mission is to inspire a passion for nature and conserve wildlife, and guests can see a number of endangered species and learn about a variety of conservation projects the Dallas Zoo supports. Opened in 2010, our award-winning Giants of the Savanna habitat is internationally known. The savanna features elephants, ostrich, zebras, impalas, giraffes, and guineafowl, often mingling together. The Dallas Zoo is home to a herd of five female elephants and 11 giraffes, which guests can feed by hand. Guests will see the fastest land mammal on Earth, the cheetah, as well as African lions who often spend their days sleeping just inches away from the viewing wall inside the Serengeti Grill restaurant. The Wilds of Africa area features rare animals such as gorillas, chimpanzees and okapi. Guests will enjoy getting eye-to-eye with African penguins as they swim effortlessly underwater. Highlights of the ZooNorth section include the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo, a top-rated reptile and amphibian complex featuring albino alligators, and the Koala Walkabout, featuring the only koalas in Texas, red kangaroo, wallabies, and a lorikeet feeding area for up-close adventures. For alternative transportation to the Dallas Zoo, consider the DART Red Line, which delivers guests to the Zoo's front entrance.”
