Walks & Countryside
Exit our driveway and turn to your left. Walk down the pavement crossing over one junction on your left and continue past the courthouse (other side of the road on your right). When you reach the corner in the road the forest park entrance is on your left.
Mountsandel fort and wood footpath

Great riverside walks, a wonderful place to go for a picnic and walk afterwards. Lots of opportunities to throw stones in the river and lots of varied walks for every ability.

Roe Valley Country Park

Quite a long drive, but worth it - you follow the river down through lots of waterfalls in the Antrim plateau. Equal amounts of down and uphill, not for the weak-legged!

Beaches
A great beach to visit to walk, explore and go bodyboarding/surfing.
Free car parking.
The waves on Whiterocks beach can get really large (10ft+), if there has been a large storm on the West coast of the United States, so it makes for a great place to surf, but exercise caution if you are not experienced. The swell tends to drift you towards the cliffs to the right of the beach. Keep an eye on the surf report on the Magic Seaweed App
If you walk from the car park towards the beach, turn right to go explore some amazing caves, but be very careful about the tides, you can get trapped around the cliffs. Search for the tide levels to work out your trip to be at low tide if you want a good few hours to explore (don't forget a torch).
Walk along the beach towards Portrush and you come across some huge sand dunes that are a local favourite to zoom down on body boards and sledges. It's quite the work-out to run up the dunes, so some water and high-sugar snacks are recommended if you don't want very exhausted children.
Walk around 8km along the back and you end up in Portrush East Strand. There are some great coffee shops there such as The Arcadia to rest your legs before the walk back.

About a 10 minute walk away from our cottage and opposite Tescos, Coopers has great food and a really traditional pub style atmosphere. Slightly more expensive than other restaurants, but still very affordable. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
