Brahehus is one of the country's most visited ancient monuments, built with an architecture inspired by the Italian Renaissance and completed in 1651. The castle was never used as a residence and instead served as a pleasure castle for Count Brahe's guests. After his death in 1680, the county was drawn into the crown during the reduction of Karl XI and in 1708 it burned to the ground. The castle ruin was first restored in the 1910s and most recently in 2012. Walking up to Brahehus from Gränna, like in the old days, can be demanding. Good shoes and plenty of time is recommended. Parking and trail start: 58.050603, 14.497154. It is also possible to get there by car or on foot via a nice forest road, 5 km one way from the cottage. Ask us how to get there.

The first in Sweden to bake Polkagrisar was Amalia Eriksson, an orphaned girl from Jönköping who moved with her husband to Gränna. There she married the tailor Anders Eriksson in 1857 and the following year their daughter Ida was born. Anders died of dysentery just a week after the birth and Amalia suddenly found herself alone with a daughter to support. With the new business freedom, it would have been easier to start a business, but women were still out of many types of business. In special cases, on the other hand, one could apply to be allowed to run a business for social reasons, so in 1859 Amalia applied to the magistrate to be allowed to run a sugar bakery with caramel production. On weekends and holidays, she baked a hard peppermint candy that she called Polkagris. The name comes from the dance polka which was popular at the time, and gris (pig) which was a general term for sweet. Polkagrisar quickly became popular and several bakeries took up production. Amalia herself became wealthy and one of Gränna's greatest personalities. When she passed away in 1923, the business continued under the direction of her daughter Ida until 1945 and today the polkagris is one of Sweden's most famous souvenirs. At Amalia Eriksson's place in Södra parken on Brahegatan, a bronze sculpture has stood in her honor since 1997. https://uddautflykter.se/guide/smaland/amalia-eriksson/

Röttle village is an idyll with moods from the past and a lush greenery in garden plots and streams. In winter, some of the red cottages from the 18th and 19th centuries are barred, but in summertime they are populated by summer guests. In the river the salmon jumps in the natural steep "stairs" but it takes a lot of effort to succeed in getting to the top. Two mill buildings - Rasmus mill and Jerusalem mill - speak of the heyday of the village. Along the river you will also find grounds for two more mills and the town's first power station. The old restaurant building is cared for by the Röttle village team for various activities. Rasmus mill dating from the 17th century was renovated in 1976–1977 and was restored to its original condition and is still in operation. https://www.grennamuseum.se/?page_id=51
