Food Scene

Another great ‘gastro’ pub tucked away in the heart of Slapton village, hidden in the shadow of the 14th century tower, all that remains of the former ecclesiastical college that once stood. It takes a little bit of effort to find but be assured once you are there you won’t want to leave. Whether it is spring, summer, autumn or winter, Dan and his family offer a warm welcome to all, including children and dogs. Lovely courtyard and gardens. Try French Chef Don’s fabulous bouillabaisse soup – our favourite!

It's been said "People will travel for miles to have a Seafood Pancake!" The Cricket Inn, sometimes known as "The Inn on The Shore", enjoys huge success with their superb Seafood and Gastro Pub style menu. Spacious, nautical themed, warm and friendly, the Inn is renowned for their daily changing menu, quality and freshness. The catch of the day is even delivered to their front door by the local fisherman! Park at Torcross and walk over the hill (or by beach, tide permitting) to Beesands.

A wonderful location beside the Estuary. A long quay enables you to wine and dine al-fresco at the quayside tables where you can watch the boats and birdlife including herons and egrets, and occasionally seals can be seen playing just off the quay. The ‘Crabbie’ is gaining a reputation as an eatery of distinction with an increasingly acclaimed menu. The Inn is “child friendly” and children of all ages are very welcome. There is an abundance of high chairs and a popular childrens’ menu. The children will be kept entertained trying to catch crabs from the Quay so take a line with you. STOP PRESS – the Crabbie is now offering breakfast daily from 8 to 11 and has a new deli for eat in or takeaw

The Anchorstone Cafe is undoubtedly one of Devon’s best kept secrets. To those in the know however, one of the last remaining riverside cafes is not to be missed. Start Bay Crab and Lobster, Galmpton Mussels and river Dart Oysters all simply prepared and as fresh as you can get. Dine Al fresco with a glass or two overlooking stunning river views. Hop on the ferry from Dartmouth to make the very most of this stunning little diner by the river. Anchorstone II is now open on Coronation Park, Dartmouth.
