Freshwater West has a lovely big beach, perfect for surfers
in fact the surfing championships are sometimes held here. Swimming is not advised due to strong currents and soft sand but there is a lifeguard present in season.
There is a car park and toilets.
And for the Harry Potter fans... Freshwater West is the home of Dobbys grave! Parts of the film were filmed on this very beach so come along and pay your respect to the heroic and loyal elf.

If you're a keen walker I highly recommend a visit. If you're feeling agile you can walk down the steep steps to the chapel and check out the views and even go for a scramble over the rocks. This may be not so great for very young children or people with mobility issues. So if you don't fancy the steps down to the chapel, stay on the cliff tops and follow the costal path which offers stunning, breath taking views and plenty of interesting wildlife.

This is another beautiful beaches in the area, it's 17 miles away and there's plenty of other places to visit in the same area. I've not been for some time but remember it being slightly tricky too walk to from the car park, but if you are a keen walker it's a beautiful spot and offers many other walks along the cliff side.

Broad Haven
This is another beautiful beaches in the area, it's 17 miles away and there's plenty of other places to visit in the same area. I've not been for some time but remember it being slightly tricky too walk to from the car park, but if you are a keen walker it's a beautiful spot and offers many other walks along the cliff side.

Angle is another lovely beach to visit just past Freshwater West. There is a great car park (there is a charge to park though I think it's free when it's not peak season) There is a lovely cafe there which you can either sit in or outside.

Recommended places to go for food.
Though I am yet to try it here, I have heard many great reviews. It has recently been taken over by a new ownership. There is a restaurant that serves. a brunch/lunch menu (12:00 - 15:00) and an evening menu (17:30 - 8:30) and can cater for all dietary needs using the finest, local ingredients. Even better it is only 1.6 miles away from the cottage and just down the road from Freshwater East. Best to book to avoid disappointment.

Shopping
I recommend heading to Pembroke Dock for getting all your shopping essentials. With an Aldi, Asda, Argos, B&M, Tesco, Lidl, Wilkinsons, KFC, McDonalds and many other shops you certainly won't have to go without and all just 5.9 miles away.

Another favourite of ours! A fantastic, large, sandy beach with safe swimming and lifeguards (Seasonal) or hire yourself a deckchair and watch the goings on. Plenty of souvenir shopping or you can and sit with your fish and chips watching the life of the harbour.
Great for crabbing with the children, all the necessary kit can be bought locally. A brilliant seaside town for families or for anyone of any age! Car park and toilets all available.

You can pre book a trip to Caldey Island which is another great day trip for all ages. Firstly you meet the boat on Tenby beach which takes you to the island. The island itself is less than a mile long and is one of the Holy islands of Britain, it had a population of about 40 permanent residents and a varying number of Cistercian Monks (Trappists) it has a shop, post office and is rich with wildlife. To this day the Monks of Caldey Abbey rely on tourism and make perfumes and even chocolate! You are free to walk around the island where you will see the Monastery and a beautiful lighthouse.

We went here a few years ago and had a fantastic day out! You can get up close with the wallabies, explore the zoo, play in the various indoor and outdoor play parks. Only service dogs are allowed and there is ample parking. Always check for disability concessions. You can purchase food and drinks or bring your own picnic. We made some lovely memories here and plan to go again in the future.

Only service dogs are allowed and there is ample parking. Always check for disability concessions. You can purchase food and drinks or bring your own picnic. We made some lovely memories here and plan to go again in the future.
