Really cool brewery with a great variety of beers and ciders. great atmosphere of this place, with fun art and murals on the wall that really incorporates the mountain setting. They also do cans and growlers if you want beer to go! Nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating, and it’s dog friendly. Great for families, with an open area next to a stream, a corn pit, and a Farm to Flame food truck. Highly recommend you check this place out!!

Mountain Views

**You must pay the Grandfather Mountain admission price to access this trail. www.Grandfather.com At one time, you were required to purchase tickets online before arrival. May want to check online before going.** This is a quick 1-hour loop trail at the very top of Grandfather Mountain. They also have a restaurant, gift shop, suspension bridge and a wildlife habitat where you can see bears, eagles… And the drive to the top is ultra curvy! Only do this hike on a warm, good-weather day (no fog, no rain). It is the most challenging of all the hikes on this list. To begin, drive all the way up to the Swinging Bridge parking lot. The access to the swinging bridge is on one side of the lot, and the trailhead is on the opposite side. There’s a network of trails here. You are starting out on the Grandfather Trail. At one point, you will see a path to the right, leading to the Grandfather Trail Extension - ignore it and continue straight ahead. You eventually come to a junction with the Underwood Trail. You will be coming back down on this trail, but for now, stay to the right and continue on the Grandfather Trail. There are ladders and rope guides to help you climb up and down rocks, and of course, they’ll be amazing views! Pay attention and turn left to take the Underwood Trail back down the mountain, when you reach the 2nd junction with that trail. (We’ve missed this before. If you reach the Attic Window Peak or Calloway Gap, you’ve gone too far.) Things will start to look familiar again after the Underwood Trail ends and you are back on the original Grandfather Trail. Just keep heading downhill all the way back to the parking lot. Note: Some people with children like to do just a partial hike, where they go as far as the first ladder, then head back down. Doing the entire loop trail IS NOT for young kids or anyone unable to use both their legs and arms to climb up and down things. Having a fear of height will not be helpful either. Location: Off Hwy 221 in Linville, NC. You can reach the entrance from either the Blue Ridge Parkway (take the exit for “Hwy 221/Grandfather Mountain”, you will see the entry gates on the right) or by taking Hwy 105 out of Boone (You’ll pass through Foscoe. At Linville, turn left at the stoplight onto Hwy 221. Follow the curvy road and you will see the entrance gates on the left.) It’s about 1hr from the cabin if you take Hwy 105, and a little longer if you take the Parkway.

City/town information

Downtown is very picturesque with cute shops and benches that overlook Main Street. Our favorite shop right now is High Country Candles, located next to the park. It’s a tiny shop, but it’s packed with their homemade candles. Kilwin’s Ice Cream is across the street offering fudge and ice cream in waffle cones or cups. If the weather is nice, Bass Lake is a very quick drive down Hwy 221. It’s one of the rare ‘flat’ walking trails. (Turn onto Hwy 221 at stoplight on Main St, where Mellow Mushroom is on the corner.)

Fun around

Tweetsie is a fantastic place for the little ones. It was like walking into a Hallmark movie.. This is a great stop if you can experience it for Christmas. Santa’s gingerbread house and the s’more station was fun. The train was magical with all the lights.
