Blue Flag Status & Deep History Coast - fun for rock pooling at low tide and a Fossil Hunter's paradise - home of the Steppe Mammoth! Fossil hunting is a big draw to this beach, one of the 50 beaches in Norfolk. It’s known as one of the best fossil collecting beaches around as well as one of the best rock pooling beaches. You can hunt for hours digging up little interesting fossils, and if you’re with children, it can be a real excitement for them and you can pass the time of day very easily. You can easily walk from West to East Runton, about a mile, BUT make sure the tide is out, otherwise you’ll get stranded. When the tide comes in, it cuts off the corner. You can also walk to Sheringham, but again, beware of the tide. There’s no lifeguard on this beach, which makes it a much quieter beach than some of the other beaches nearby, such as Cromer and Sheringham. Car Park, Cafe & loos

Towns & Villages

Mud larking and swimming at low tide at Blakeney is probably a child’s dream day! Wet- suits are best for the job and be warned, the mud sticks! In my experience no amount of washing will remove Blakeney mud stains! Moveable date in July/ August sees the annual Blakeney Aquatic Sports Day, where any- one can enter a number of events from sandcastle building and ‘ghilly’ (crab) catching competitions to swimming races, the tug of war and the infamous ‘Greasy pole’ challenge. The Fun Fair visits Blakeney down at the quayside Carnser Car Park for a week in August. In October Carnser Car Park is the home of the annual Fireworks and Bonfire event with fun fair rides, fundraising stalls and hot food – always a great night out.
