This beach formed when the Elwha dam was removed. More than 70 acres of new habitat have been created, and tribal members have restored access to sacred sites and revived long-ago cultural traditions. You’ll find some of the most dramatic changes at the mouth of the Elwha River, where wetlands, beaches and the estuary are being rebuilt.
Stroll the sandy beach, explore the riverbank, soak up the sun, take in the sounds of waves, and ponder the power of Mother Nature. Walkers, picnickers and surfers will want to check out the new beach at the east end of Freshwater Bay. The protected waters are ideal for kayaks and small boats. A boat launch at the west end of the bay provides the perfect spot to hit the water.

It is one of the most popular trails in Olympic National Park. The trail begins by the Storm King Ranger Station and features a nice gentle rise in elevation up to the falls, and a pleasant descent. It's a great family friendly outing in an old growth forest.

It is one of the most popular trails in Olympic National Park. The trail begins by the Storm King Ranger Station and features a nice gentle rise in elevation up to the falls, and a pleasant descent. It's a great family friendly outing in an old growth forest.

If you look out towards the water you’ll see a strange strip of land in the harbor with cars driving on it. That’s the Spit or Ediz Hook! We love playing in the water and walking along the beach looking for seals! Drive west on Front Street and take a right at the fork. You’ll drive through the paper mill. Keep going until you’re driving on the spit. You can go all the way to the Coast Guard station.

Adventure
Paved walk that leads you by the water and through some thick trees. It’s over 100 miles long—there are several access points in Port Angeles and Sequim—depending on what kind of scenery you want. It’s nice for biking, running and walking.

It’s about a 25 minute drive. Make sure to check the tide schedule for low tide if you want to see the tide pools. Both the beach and tide pools are best at a 2 ft tide or lower (the lower the better!)

Kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. The water is a crystal-clear blue/green. We love relaxing on the dock and jumping in when it’s warm enough. The lodge is a fun place to eat and play games. 30 min drive west on HWY 101

Hurricane Ridge is the most easily accessed mountain area within Olympic National Park. In clear weather, fantastic views can be enjoyed throughout the year. Great hiking for fall, spring and winter. Snowshoeing, tubing, and skiing during the winter months

Nice and easy trail with beautiful views of the blue waters of Lake Crescent and a cool railroad tunnel. During the summer months, locals jump from cliffs of varying heights into the deep, cold waters of the punchbowl.

Located about 90 minutes from Port Angeles, this easy hike ends in a stunning view of Tatoosh Island while standing on the most northwesterly tip of the contiguous lower 48 States. Four observation decks on the Cape Flattery Trail provide spectacular views of the rugged rocks, birds, and jade waters of the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific takes on many hues depending on the weather and cloud cover from steel gray to light pink or yellow at sunset. Watch for gray whales off the Cape and sea lions on Snake Rock just east of Tatoosh Island.

The last section involves a rock scramble before reaching the summit. The view at the top overlooks Lake Crescent and is incredible!
There is an optional side-trip to the popular Marymere Falls if you want to extend your trip.
