Walks

There are loads of amazing walks near to the lodge including coastal path walks as well as lots of lovely walks using the public footpaths around the countryside. As the lodge is in a rural setting off the beaten path you will need a car to take you to most of the best walks in the area. You can find details of public footpaths by using Ordnance Survery maps and other maps that display footpaths and bridle ways or by searching online.

By starting out at the car park you can get onto the coastal path and enjoy the beauty of the North Devon coast. You can get a snack, a meal and a drink at the Wreckers Retreat Inn and pick up interesting facts about the history of smuggling and ship wrecks that are part of the history of the area.

A really beautiful circular walk which includes walking through ancient woods, climbing cliff steps and walking along a cliff top on coastal path. Starting at the National Trust car park in the hamlet of Brownsham this walk is approximately 6 miles and there are some steep and rocky sections. There are lots of places to get more information about this walk for example at the North Devon AONB website or The Happy Hiker website.
A beautiful historic church and graveyard with a walk to Hawkers Hut. After visiting this atmospheric old church you can take the short walk to visit the driftwood lookout hut on the cliff overlooking the rocky coast below where the legendary priest Rev Hawker contemplated the sea and watched out for ship wrecks. Afterwards a visit to the amazing Rectory tea rooms and there lovely garden, where you can enjoy one of the best cream teas ever. A really lovely way to spend the afternoon whatever the weather.

An excellent tea room with a beautiful garden. Serves the most delicious food and probably one of the best cream teas you will ever taste. A must visit tea room endorsed by tv's Hairy Bikers no less. Yum Yum
