Driving is your best way of getting around here.
Lots of dirt roads so know the forecast and your vehicle clearance before setting out on your adventure. All roads in-town are paved, however, some side streets may still be layered with dirt/mud from the flood this summer.

There is a lot of sand and dirt around Hanksville making good shoes a must. Gaitors are a good idea to keep the sand and stickers "pokies" out. Lots of sandstone to explore so good grippy soles can also be very handy.

Good sun protection for summer trips
If you are traveling during the warmer months (Late April-early September) you will want loads of sun protection: Sunscreen, a loose/light long-sleeved sun shirt, and a good sun hat. It can get pretty hot during the day.

There is one market in town that is more like a large convenience store. They stock the basics like milk, cheese, some produce, some frozen food, but mostly packaged and canned goods. If you have specific food requirements/preferences, packing a cooler is highly recommended if you want to do your own cooking, or prefer not to eat out.
