Lucca

It goes without saying that Lucca cannot be visited in a single day, but the short distance from our apartment will allow you to reach it easily to savor its essence and make you want to return to discover even its most hidden aspects.
Lucca is one of the most beautiful and loved cities of art in Tuscany. Most of Lucca's tourist attractions retain the signs left by its ancient history: from the traces of the Roman amphitheater visible in the shape of Piazza dell’Anfiteatro to the various towers and villas built between the 12th and 16th centuries. The walls surrounding the city have been exceptionally preserved despite growth and modernization. Since they no longer play a military role, they have become an important pedestrian area perfect for taking long and pleasant walks. But that's not all, there are many other things to see including Piazza San Michele with its beautiful Church, the Basilica of San Frediano as well as the Clock Tower and the Guinigi Tower. The main artery of the historic city is the narrow and medieval via Fillungo, which brings together the major businesses of the city.

Vinci

The municipality of Vinci is located about 50 km from Florence and 30 km from our apartment.
The name of this small town can only bring to mind the famous world famous person to whom the village had the honor of giving birth: Leonardo, the genius of the Renaissance. The origins of Vinci date back to the Middle Ages, a period in which the area in which the village stands today was controlled by the Guidi counts: it is to them that the construction of the fortress that today outlines the profile of Vinci is due. The Conti Guidi castle is also known as "the ship's castle" because of its elongated architecture which makes it look like a boat and houses the Leonardian Museum, one of the largest collections in the world centered around the Tuscan genius. Also inside the castle is the Leonardian Library, an important documentation center for all the works of the great Renaissance genius. In the Castle square it is impossible not to notice the large wooden sculpture "The Man of Vinci", in homage to the famous Vitruvian Man with ideal proportions. Another point of interest that makes the small town of Vinci a destination to visit is Piazza dei Guidi, an original urban area designed by the artist Mimmo Paladino, who, always referring to Leonardo's works, has created an unusual space in which the floors depict some of the inventor's drawings and change their appearance according to the weather conditions, creating ever new and changing scenarios.

Collodi

Collodi is only 14 km from our apartment.
The village of Collodi is made up of small houses cascading down from a steep hill. Its origin is similar to that of many other medieval villages, for mainly military reasons the population was forced to climb the hill to better defend itself from possible enemy attacks. The small houses are arranged on the sides of two triangles that touch the vertices, at the base of which are the ancient Rocca on one side and the majestic Villa Garzoni on the other. A real open-air museum is the Pinocchio Park, one of Collodi's main attractions.

Pistoia

The city of Pistoia is located exactly halfway between Florence and Lucca, and only 27 km from our apartment.
Easy to reach both by car and by train, the historic center is perfect for spending a beautiful half day, walking around it, visiting churches and museums. It was once surrounded by three circles of walls and today there is still some evidence of it in the basement of the city, visible by visiting the archaeological museum inside the Palazzo dei Vescovi in Piazza del Duomo or the underground tunnels under the hospital. The Ospedale del Ceppo with the Della Robbia frieze in glazed terracotta is one of the most admired attractions in the city. The Duomo is the main square, around which the most important buildings overlook: the Town Hall, the Cathedral of San Zeno, the Palazzo dei Vescovi, the Baptistery and the bell tower. Not far from Pistoia is Serravalle which still retains the ancient, typically medieval structure, so perched to strategically control the surrounding area.

Montecatini Terme

The distance from Altopascio is only 16 km, so reaching the spa town will not be difficult.
Montecatini Terme is undoubtedly one of the most important spas in Europe. The properties of its waters, used for drinking therapy, but also for beauty treatments and for general psychophysical well-being, has been known since ancient times. For those who decide to spend a wellness stay in the Tuscan town, they will be able to appreciate the artistic beauty of the spa: from the frescoes and liberty style decorations that embellish the vaults and colonnades of the town to the ceramics located inside the spas. The Parco delle Terme, known by all as "the pine forest" is the green heart of the city, it embraces the splendid spas. A few steps from Montecatini Terme, at 290 meters above sea level, there is the true historic center of the town which you can also reach thanks to the characteristic funicular. In Montecatini Alto, a delightful medieval village, you will admire characteristic views and corners without forgetting the splendid view over the Valdinievole.

Livorno

Livorno is a port city located on the west coast of Tuscany and is easily accessible from Altopascio.
Born from the will of the Medici who in 1606 made it a city, Livorno became an oasis of welcome for all religious, political or racial persecuted, enriching itself with the initiative and customs of the most disparate foreign nations. Bridges, canals, ancient buildings that are reflected on the calm waters make one think of a little Venice on the Mediterranean. Its history, culture, flaming sunsets, clear and fragrant air, gastronomic traditions: everything is connected to the sea. The panoramic terrace that distinguishes the city of Livorno is Terrazza Mascagni, with its very particular black and white checkerboard floor. Another symbol of the city is the monument of the four Moors, near the port. Guarding the latter, instead, there is the Old Fortress, joined by waterways to the New Fortress, the heart of the city center. In the heart of the city you can visit the Cathedral of San Francesco, the Cathedral of Livorno, which has a facade completely rebuilt after the bombing of the Second World War. Walking through the historic alleys, you come across some of the most beautiful squares in Italy such as Piazza delle Repubblica, known as the Voltone, and Piazza Grande. One of the most fascinating routes will lead you to discover what is called Little Venice, a path of canals that leads to the center of the city. You cannot miss a visit to the imposing temple of taste in Livorno, the large Mercato delle Vettovaglie, considered one of the largest historical markets in Europe.

Versilia

Versilia is located in north-western Tuscany, within the province of Lucca and can be reached from our apartment in just 35 minutes by car.
Golden beaches, a hinterland of small villages and natural parks to discover, a mild climate and a nightlife full of shows and entertainment: all this is Versilia. A strip of coast that extends for about twenty kilometers, between cultivated hills, the lake area of Massaciuccoli and the peaks of the Apuane, where the presence of archaeological sites, Romanesque churches, medieval villages, fortresses and castles, testifies to the history of a territory inhabited since the Neolithic. Sea, mountains, hills, endless sandy beaches and rich Mediterranean vegetation are the contrasting elements that tell the charm of an area that in the collective imagination has always been synonymous with fun, tourism and carefree. Versilia is scattered with the signs of the past that drew the main cities: Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta and Viareggio along the coast line, Massarosa near the lake of Massaciuccoli, Camaiore on the hills, Stazzema and Seravezza in the upper Versilia, to which they are to add a series of smaller centers.
