An historic home outside of Cayuga featuring beautiful grounds beside the Grand River and ample hiking trails. In the Spring Ruthven hosts a birding festival where birds are banded and lucky youngsters get to release them. There is also a wine and beer tent for Mom and Dad. There are also guided tours of the mansion by knowledgable volunteers. As with everything these days some things are not available due to Covid so it's best to contact them to avoid disappointment.

A Slower Pace

Out here at the Lake things move at a slower pace. Part of the charm is the laid back attitude of the locals and shopkeepers. People stop to chat, and most everyone will greet you on your walks. Please don't speed on the Lakeshore or cottage roads.

At the Beach

We have many beautiful beaches in the area for your family to enjoy. Just a note though, they are not serviced by life guards so make sure you accompany the kiddos to the water. You may want to pack buckets and shovels to build a sandcastle or collect shells, or perhaps an air mattress to float on.

Ice Cream!

If you are lucky enough to be here on a summer Saturday listen for the music and chase the ice cream truck for a tasty treat! (Us grown ups do it too...)

Fishing tackle

If you're an angler there are quite a few places to fish, from the bridge in Dunnville to Port Dover Pier. You may land a nice Bass, some Perch or even a Pickeral.

Where to get...

If you're staying at 56 Heather or 38 Lake and need Ice? Tuna? Sunscreen? A bottle of wine? The store in Selkirk, Town and Country, will have it. As a plus it's a scenic 15 minute drive along the Lakeshore. Need fuel? Fisherville has a gas station and small store called 2 Main West. Car trouble? Try Smucks garage, also in Fisherville. If you are staying at 2110 Lakeshore you have more options in the nearby town of Dunnville. Follow the Lakeshore to South Cayuga road, turn left until you get to Rainham road then turn right. Continue on Rainham until you reach Dunnville

Firewood etc

There are many locals along Rainham Road who sell firewood at the end of their driveway. You can also get farm fresh eggs and local produce. They all operate on the honour System so be sure to bring cash.
