Nothing beats Sherman's Dairy Bar for ice cream in South Haven! Prepare for a short but fun wait to pick out the biggest scoop of ice cream you've ever seen! Favorite flavors include cake batter (no, really, it's amazing!), marion blackberry, and grasshopper. A single scoop in a waffle cone is enough for two people!

An upscale and James Beard award winning restaurant in 25 minutes north in Saugatuck that is our favorite place for celebrations. We love the seasonal tasting menu! Reservations are highly recommended. This is more a spot for adults than for families.

Owned by the same family that owns and operates DeGrandchamp Blueberry and Cranberry Farm, The Lodge is perhaps the most popular spot in town with locals. The food and service are reliably top-notch. Family friendly, plenty of screens to watch the game, and an all-around great time.

Michigan Theater is a fantastic spot to visit when the weather isn't cooperating, or even if you've just overdone it in the sun and need a break. It is a clean spot, with three screens and great popcorn.

Take a walk out to the end of the pier to touch the South Haven Lighthouse, and you'll never be disappointed! The lighthouse recently underwent minor renovation to reopen the portholes that had been covered in steel sheeting since the 1970s. The new glass coverings are fun to spot if you've been to the lighthouse many times. A local favorite for sunsets.

Don't miss out on a trip across the drawbridge to this wonderful museum. You can learn all about how the Great Lakes region contributed to the WWII war effort, and you can also book a ride on their tall ship, the Friends Good Will. It's the enormous sloop that you won't be able to miss when you're down lounging on the beach. The Maritime Museum has an extra cool fleet of historic Coast Guard boats, and a beautiful Chris-Craft that goes out, as well. If you're more into being on the water than at the water, this is your spot!

Local Michigan Food

Bob's produces some of the finest smoked meats and fish in the Midwest. Their bacon is a favorite on local restaurant menus. We love getting a whole smoked turkey breast for lunch meat, their brats are out of this world, and their smoked salmon and lake trout are the best we've ever eaten. Highly recommend!

If you missed out on the farmers market, and you're looking for local produce, meat, dairy, and beer and wine, Barden's is the place to visit. It's a quick two minute drive from the loft, and when Korinda is in town, she shops there almost every day. Be sure to get a container of cherries or blueberries during the summer!

Our favorite biking trail in town, as it is nicely paved and features beautiful scenery. It's 10 miles roundtrip (out and back) to Van Buren State Park from the unit. We ride this trail as often as we can, and frequently spot wild turkeys and other interesting wildlife. Highly recommend if you bring or rent bikes.
