This is the iconic landmark of the Portland area. The first lighthouse commissioned by the US government in 1785, it is located at the entrance to Portland Harbor, and the views are incredible. There is a lovely park, with swings and picnic tables, as well as historic fort buildings to explore.

There is a lovely park, with swings and picnic tables, as well as historic fort buildings to explore.

On summer weekend nights, sometimes they show family movies on a super large screen. One of the most popular sites to see Fourth of July fireworks. There is a large are for picnics, kite flying, etc. Many locals come here after work with picnic suppers and to walk their dogs. You can bike along the Greenbelt Parkway to get here, or drive directly to the site.

The Greenbelt Parkway provides 5.7 miles of off-road trail from the town of Scarborough to Bug Light Park in South Portland.

This waterfront trail built along an old rail corridor offers spectacular harbor and ocean views. Benches and picnic tables are located along the route and at East End Beach. The Beach offers swimming and a public boat launch, as well as public toilets and changing areas during the summer months. Dogs are allowed on the Beach during off season. Kayaks and canoes can be stored on rental racks and launched from the beach or the boat ramp.

Eastern PromenadeThis waterfront trail built along an old rail corridor offers spectacular harbor and ocean views. Benches and picnic tables are located along the route and at East End Beach. The Beach offers swimming and a public boat launch, as well as public toilets and changing areas during the summer months. Dogs are allowed on the Beach during off season. A 3.5 mile loop around Back Cove, this is a lovely spot for strolling, biking or running. Can give you access to the East side of the City as well. Connects to the Eastern Prom and East End beach which can connect to downtown Portland as well

Across the channel from Pine Point Beach, get to this beach early -- not a lot of parking but a great spot with wonderful views. When the tide is out there are sand bars to walk to -- beachgoers can bump into kayakers. The channel can be active with working and pleasure boats when the tide is in. There is a shallow, more gentle section for young children to swim -- there is a section around the other end of the beach that can have rip tides
