Union Market refers to both the trendy little district that features lots of dining options and shopping. If you are exploring the district in general , here are some wonderful options: - Masseria for high-end Italian - La Cosecha: a charming Latin-America marketplace - O-Ku for excellent sushi - Cotton and Reed: great selection of rums and good place to enjoy a cocktail - St Anselm: If its steak you want Union Market is also the name of the food hall ( 1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC 20002). Its a good one-stop-shop if you all want to try different cuisines under one roof. So many good choices there but we especially like: - 2Fifty for BBQ - Buffalo & Bergen for great breakfast sandwiches - Lucky Buns for burgers - Puddin’ for their bread pudding.

Sightseeing

DC is one of the most walkable/bikeable cities. Highly reccommend doing just that at these attractions. Some (eg the Arboretum) will require that you drive to get to them, but most are easily accessible by public transportation.

Neighborhoods

One of the oldest neighborhoods in DC (it was wired for electricity in 1889, 2 years before the white house!), Eckington is filled with charming federal-style and Victorian row houses. With its perfect mix of urban and residential, Eckington is a popular choice for those who prefer a small-town atmosphere with big-city conveniences just minutes away. Lose yourself in nature at the gorgeous 446-acre US National Arboretum, just 15 minutes drive away. Fun fact: Eckington’s colorful rowhouses in a palette of pink, gray, yellow, green, slate and blue may be familiar to you: They appear in the time-lapse opening credit sequence of the Netflix series “House of Cards.”
