3-4 Minutes drive is home of the film ‘We bought a zoo’ A easy family day out, parking is easy and journey non existant, so a good option if it’s overcast.

Lovely place to go for a picnic, bike ride or just a walk. A pretty drive there too. Ice cream vans that also serve coffee are normally about.

Calm beach, good for paddle boarding, National trust car park (don’t forget your membership card) . There is also a very popular beach cafe that serves seafood dishes… It’s popular… but pricey.

There are two beaches here, both quite small. Bags of fun for kids when the tide comes in- you can see older ones enjoying some jumping into the water. A cluster of places for food as well- my favourite is Hope Cove House, but also The Cove, selling pizzas and known for live music, the Hope and Anchor is pretty good considering how many people they serve, and the Lobster Pod bistro (I’d suggest booking a pod in advance) for seafood lovers.

A great spot and a little closer than some other beaches, this is a private beach, part of the Flete Estate. There is chargeable parking in a field then a short walk to the beach. You have The School House for food and drinks/toilets (located next to the car Park) also the local surfing cow ice cream is made just up the road.

I thought I’d insert the National Trust blurb on this place and I’d suggest checking out their website for more info regarding best starting points for cycling . ‘A wooded valley opening up to the moors of Dartmoor with a rich and varied industrious past The Plym Valley consists of varied habitats from riverside meadows, ancient woodland and the wilderness of Dartmoor. Car parks at Plymbridge, Cadover Bridge and Shaugh Prior provide good starting points to explore the area on foot or bike.’ If you were to go to Yelverton there are several little shops/cafes to stop at for refreshments and a park for the children.

Food scene

Worth ringing to book prior as at times during Covid certain areas have been restricted to residents only. A family run guest house and restaurant overlooking the beach at hope cove, it serves really great food. There is also their more informal beach hut to the left, which to my knowledge is open to non residents and without a reservation.

Really fantastic ethicality produced food. You do need to book (and well I’m advance for the summer times). It’s a set menu, with family style sharing dishes (or at least it always was pre covid!) look it up well in advance if you fancy an alternative dining experience

Probably best to look up this place Creamos.co.uk or if you use Instagram, look at their pictures and you’ll be making a visit! Only open Fridays and Saturdays as everything is made from scratch. Ashburton is a sweet town and worth a visit- especially the vegetarian Rafikis cafe… Then dessert here!!

Young Family Fun

Options for easy pleasing and for when the weather isn’t so kind!
A family run farm with plenty to keep the younger age group smiling all day. They have a restaurant for easy dining and some under cover parts should the weather be poor. It’s about à 20 mins from our house.

My son suggested I add this place- It has a cafe with small soft play area, ideal for under 8s. A good option if the weather is bad and they need to get rid of some energy, whilst you sit and relax!

R and R

Probably a lot to do with why you would come to Devon- to slow things down and relax
Borringdon Hall Spa is a great opportunity to enjoy and bit of pampering and relaxation. Ages 16+ are permitted. It is popular so check well I’m advance. I definitely can recommend an evening spa session- but i can’t recommend the restaurant there (unfortunately, we don’t think much of it)
