City/town information

The Appalachian Trail passes directly through the middle of Hot Springs, North Carolina. It’s a sleepy mountain town that comes alive in the summer time, buzzing with hikers, kayakers, hot tub soakers, and others seeking a mountain retreat. AT Thru-hikers are often seen gathering outside of Bluff Mountain Outfitters, most likely pondering if they will take a ‘nero’ after resupplying or continue onwards. Hot Springs is a designated A.T. community by the ATC for being hiker friendly and a haven for thru-hikers. The infamous natural hot water springs have been a big draw to this little town for many years. The mineral water, first discovered and used by the Native Americans, is believed to have restorative, healing benefits. Talk about a great way to rest tired legs after hiking! Paint Rock, an American Indian pictograph is nearby and is believed to be related to the hot springs, according to Archaeologists. The French Broad River, the third oldest River in the world, runs along the edge of downtown. Campers set up along the banks, enjoying the mountain scenery as they watch rafters float by and hikers crossing the bridge above to reenter the woods. Hot Springs is the nearest town to us. We love eating dinner at Big Pillow Brewing, which has a taco stand inside, and Spring Creek Tavern. Vastes Riviera and the outfitters have a great grocery selection. There is also a coffee place, library, PO office, hardware store, and welcome center all in walking distance!

This little gem is a great place to let the kids and pups run around. There is a playground with picnic tables and a nice long walking path that goes around the perimeter of the island. It's usually pretty quiet here. Please respect our local park and clean up after yourself. Enjoy beautiful views of the river! There is a an old school building that has been converted to artists studios and the farmers market sets up here in the summer.

Print Directions!

Our cabin is remote and you will lose cell service at some point during your drive so please screen shot directions or have them printed. If you have the address plugged into the GPS before you lose service it should be fine. We recommend using Google Maps.

Arrive with groceries!

We are half an hour away from the nearest grocery store (Ingles), so it's a good idea to have food figured out before you arrive.
