Food scene

Within a five minute walk, you will be in my favourite pub in Todmorden, and my local one too. Hosted by owners Tim and Kate along with their incredible food you will experience incredibly delicious and hearty Yorkshire food. Wether you like fish or meat they have an extensive menu as well as an extensive Vegan menu. The wine is great, lots of gin and of course local ales. A must for a Robin Cottage visit!

Natalie and her wonderful team have been serving Todmordian’s and visitors the most incredible stone baked pizzas for 5 years now. Her dynamic approach has seen her pizzeria expand to a beautiful outdoor area as well as a private dining area. Her pizzas are the best I’ve ever tasted and she had a great selection of wine and spirits to accompany your starters and desserts. Highly recommended!

Did you know Todmorden had its very own beach? Gaddings Damn is right on the tops of our beautiful town and is a real tourist attraction especially in the summer. I respectfully ask you do not park on narrow roads near the damn as hinders emergency vehicles when needed, but there are two beautiful pubs (Shepherds Rest and the Top Brink) right underneath the damn.

You MUST take a walk to our Pike if that’s the purpose of your visit, you will love it! The 121 foot (37 m) high Stoodley Pike Monument dominates the skyline above Todmorden, sitting atop Stoodley Pike, a 1,300-foot (400 m) hill The monument was designed in 1854 by local architect James Green, and completed in 1856 at the end of the Crimean War. The monument replaced an earlier structure, commemorating the defeat of Napoleon and the surrender of Paris. It was completed in 1815, after the Battle of Waterloo, but collapsed in 1854 after decades of weathering and a lightning strike. You can only reach the Pike on foot, as there is no vehicular or bicycle access to the monument

Amongst these rocky outcrops are a number of odd-shaped formations that have been caused by weather-related erosion over thousands, if not millions of years. One huge boulder in particular, known as ‘The Great Bridestone’ is fantastically shaped at its base, looking like an up-turned bottle, as if it might topple over at any moment. There are a number of myths and legends associated with The Bridestones, many of these going back to the mists of time. More recently, perhaps, there are a number of local traditions that have become connected to the place and its many, strange-shaped rocks and boulders. The Bridestones are located about ½ a mile north-east of Eastwood Road – where a footpath runs across the often boggy moor to the outcrops. Another path connects the north-side of the outcrops from Kebs Road, and from just opposite Orchan House Farm at Fast Ends – it runs in a southerly direction across Bridestones Moor.
