Fantastic gourmet food decently priced. Wonderful hamburgers served on a pretzel roll in delightful combinations; my favorites are the jalapeno cheeseburger and the cherry brie burger. Also, be sure to buy desserts to take home.

This tropical themed open-air bar/restaurant is only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and boy is it busy! No reservations, but you can order drinks while you wait (The Heck Yeah is delightful). and enjoy watching boats pull up to the dock. Small menu, but everything is great, from the pork tacos to the dockmaster hamburger, to peanut butter and jelly sweet potato fries, to a very generously portioned lobster roll.

This is a great day trip. Start early and let the kids trek all over the dunes before noon. Stop in Glen Arbor for lunch, and then take a tour of Traverse City attractions.

Drive north on 31 from the center of Charlevoix, go over the bridge, and look for Mt. McSauba Rd. The winding road will take you past upscale homes to an outdoor recreation area with a big hill (Mt. McSauba). Used by locals for skiing in the winter, it is a short climb to the highest spot in Charlevoix, and you'll have beautiful views of Lake Michigan coastline for miles.

Drive north on 31 from the center of Charlevoix, go over the bridge, and look for Mt. McSauba Rd. The winding road will take you past upscale homes to an outdoor recreation area with a big hill (Mt. McSauba). Used by locals for skiing in the winter, it is a short climb to the highest spot in Charlevoix, and you'll have beautiful views of Lake Michigan coastline for miles.

I recommend you rent a bike immediately upon arrival, and bike around the island, taking in the great views and stopping to climb up to arch rock, pictured above. In the summer, the restaurants are crowded, so get your name on the list at least an hour before you expect to be hungry.

You will need a car to get around!
If you are flying in, be sure to rent a car. Driving around the area is easy, and many attractions are within a 60-90 minute drive, but be aware that in the summer, the drawbridge in Charlevoix goes up for about 5 minutes every half-hour. This can cause an epic mile-long traffic jam when traveling through town. Plan ahead, or take the Ironton Ferry across the southern arm of Lake Charlevoix for a scenic drive.

An 80-minute drive To Mackinac City straight north on 31, this is a must-visit. Go early. Try to arrive in Mackinac City in the morning, and purchase ferry tickets online. Rent bikes, a horse, carriage, or walk. Bring a camera.
