The houston zoo has grown so much over the past few years. My favorite exhibits include the African forest gorillas, the aquarium, and I’m excited to visit the new pantanal exhibit. During the Christmas season they also put on a pretty good lights show.

Not far from here, only a 15-20 min drive. You’ll find this beautiful monument and museum on the houston ship channel. Texas has a very rich history and this spot is the very birthplace of Texas. The museum does charge a small entry fee and has a gift shop inside. You can also go all the way to the top to the star and see from the overlook. The park has much to see and a wonderful trail to explore. It’s great for a day out and a picnic.

If you love baseball as much as I do, or maybe your team is playing the ‘Stros while you’re in town. It is one of my favorite activities in the spring for sure.

A rental car is most useful
Houston is a commuter’s city. While Uber is great for going out to events where there will be alcohol. Everyday getting around is easiest with a car. Most things are located within a 20-30 minute drive.

Bring comfortable slip on shoes.
With the exception of a couple of rugs, there is no carpet to walk on.
